Non-solid electrolytic capacitors have the risk of dry-out and are often considered not a good fit for lasting high-temperature applications. However, when targeting a specific application and when special considerations are given, it can be made to fit the application. This link http://www.rubycon.co.jp/en/products/topics/t009.html is an example of non-solid electrolytic capacitors for automotive use. Solid electrolytic capacitors do not have the dry-out risk, but this doesn't automatically make it a fit for automotive use. In short, both non-solid and solid electrolytic capacitors can be used for automotive application provided they are designed for such application. Here is a link showing both types for automotive use: http://www.nichicon.co.jp/english/products/pdf/nichicon_automotive_e.pdf
