The effect of the US ban parallels the effect of the US ban on US companies selling components to ZTE which brought the Chinese company to its knees in a a week or two.

At Fujian  Jin Hua, Applied and ASML have pulled out of the $6 billion project and progress on equipment installation has stopped.

Bloomberg quotes a Jin Hua engineer saying: “ No one here  knows for sure what’s next, not even the local government officials. Only Xi Jinping and Donald Trump can save us now. We only hope the government see us as important as ZTE.”

The engineer may get some joy this week when Xi and Trump meet at the G20 in Argentina.

Jin Hua employs 1,000 people and has a 5k a month pilot line making 300mm wafers.

There is concern in China that the next projects to be hit by a US ban are the NAND start-up Yangtze River Memory and another DRAM start-up Hefei Changxin.

China wants the fabs to help reduce its $220 billion import bill for ICs.

Applied, ASML and other Western equipment and materials suppliers were relying on the China fabs for substantial revenues.
