Mercedes-Benz EQS AMG Sedan May Be a 600 HP Electric Powerhouse
Date:2020-04-07 19:29:43 Posted by:Gwen View:220Last year, Mercedes-Benz introduced the Mercedes ECS electric sedan, which the company stated that its pair of electric motors could reach up to 350 kilowatts(470hp) of power.
Now, according to a report by Autocar in the U.K., the car company is supposedly producing an AMG high-powered version, which could reach up to 600hp.
Mercedes' upcoming EVs
As per Autocar who spoke with one of Mercedes-Benz's "high-ranking engineers," the company's AMG performance car division will be wheeling out its EQS' most exciting variant.
Fully equipped with a dual-motor setup, it will provide over 600hp and 663 pound-feet of torque. Quite an impressive feat, even though it won't quite make it up to the total force of Tesla's Model S. Nevertheless, as the class of luxury EVs continues to expand, Mercedes-Benz's EQS will most likely top its competitors in terms of comfort and its top-notch cabin.
The company's first versions of its all-electric EQS will start production in 2021, and will most likely be available to purchase come 2022. So it's quite safe to say that the EQS AMG version will only be fully unveiled after the first version of the EQS starts production.
The EQS itself is a size between the E- and S- Classes. However, there's still little information available about the car aside from some specs revealed in January: 100kWh battery pack, 470 horsepower, and 350kW ultra-fast charging.
The AMG versions of the EQS will certainly offer Mercedes-Benz the chance to show off its cars' power, but, its big focus will be on the company's reputation for comfort.
As Markus Schäfer, Mercedes-Benz's research and development chief, told Autocar"We want to change the way we build cars. The focus is on electric drivetrains. The limitations placed on the packaging by a conventional combustion engine platform don’t apply anymore. The space, especially in the rear, sets new standards."
